- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Buttercream frosting homemade or store-bought
- Food coloring black, red, yellow, white
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pans.
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until smooth. Do not overmix.
Pour batter into pans and bake. Large cake: 30–35 minutes. Small cakes: 20–25 minutes.
Cool completely before assembling.
Place large cake in the center and attach small cakes as ears with frosting.
Apply a crumb coat, chill for 20 minutes, then decorate with colored frosting.
