- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 package (16 oz) pasta (your choice)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Parsley for garnish (optional)
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it up as you go. Drain any excess fat.
Pour in your marinara sauce and sprinkle in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well, then let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, cook your pasta according to the package instructions until it’s al dente. Drain and then mix into the beef and sauce mixture.
In a large baking dish, layer half of the pasta mixture. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top followed by half of the pepperoni.
Repeat the layers with the remaining mixture, ending with the last of the mozzarella cheese and pepperoni.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Once out of the oven, let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Prep ahead: Chop your veggies and cook the meat in advance for a quick assembly on busy nights.
Mix cheese: Combine mozzarella with a bit of cheddar cheese for extra richness.
Make it spicy: Add crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce for a zesty touch.
Start with less pasta: If you prefer a cheesier casserole, reduce the pasta slightly.
Watch the bake: Keep an eye on the casserole as it bakes; each oven varies a bit!
Garnish: A sprinkle of fresh parsley or basil brings freshness and a pop of color!
