Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh figs, chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamo

Instructions

  • Wash the figs thoroughly, remove the stems, and chop them into quarters.
  • In a large pot, mix the chopped figs, granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon.
  • Place the pot over medium heat and stir frequently until the sugar dissolves and the figs begin to break down, about 30 minutes.
  • Check the texture; it should resemble a thick jam. Adjust heat if necessary.
  • Once thickened, remove from heat and pour into sterilized jars, wiping rims clean before sealing.
  • Allow to cool completely at room temperature and store in the refrigerator for up to two months.

Notes

Use ripe figs for the best flavor. For a chunkier spread, cook for a shorter time. Label your jars and consider gifting extra batches.
