Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Pastry brush
  • Small bowl
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • marinara sauce for dipping
  • ranch dressing optional, for dipping
  • red food coloring optional, to tint marinara for “bloody” effect

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut into strips about 6–8 inches long.
  • Shape into Bones: Tie a loose knot at each end of the dough strip to resemble bone ends. Stretch slightly to form a bone shape.
  • Add Cheese Filling: Sprinkle mozzarella and parmesan cheese inside each dough strip before folding or twisting the dough around the filling. Seal edges tightly to prevent cheese from leaking.
  • Season the Bones: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush generously over shaped dough bones.
  • Bake the Breadsticks: Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  • Serve with Dips: Serve warm with marinara or ranch dipping sauce. Add a few drops of red food coloring to marinara for a spooky “bloody bones” effect.

Notes

These breadstick bones taste best when served warm and fresh out of the oven.
For a sweet variation, skip the cheese and garlic, brush with butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Dough bones can be prepared ahead, refrigerated, and baked just before serving.
